(295) Lord Muhammad—exalted be his glory—said when he closed the doors: "Whoever desires the Truth, let him enter through the gate of Ali."

(296) That is the saying of Abu Dharr—peace be upon him—when Uthman exiled him from Medina and our Master went out to see him off. He said to our Master as he bid him farewell: "You have left me, O Truth (al-Haqq), and I have no friend."

(297) It has been related that this verse is the conclusion of the Gospel: {There is no deity except God, the Sovereign, the Manifest Truth}. Indeed, for whoever engraves it upon the gemstone of his ring, God shall remove his grief.

Among His names: The Living (al-Hayy)

The proof is the word of the Mighty and Sublime: {He is the Living; there is no deity except Him, so call upon Him, sincere to Him in religion. Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds}1.

Among His names: The Wali (al-Wali)

The proof is the word of the Mighty and Sublime: {Or have they taken protectors besides Him? But God is the Wali, and He gives life to the dead, and He is over all things competent}2.

The Messenger of God—exalted be his glory—clarified this and declared it by announcing it in the call to prayer (Adhan), the commencement (Iqama), and the proclamation atop the minarets by saying: "And I bear witness that Ali is the Wali of the believers." God the Mighty and Sublime said: {God is the Wali of those who believe. He brings them out from darknesses into the light. And those who disbelieve—their allies are Taghut. They take them out of the light into darknesses. Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein}3. How beautiful are the witnesses of these verses regarding the knowledge of the Lord of lords, how clear the address, and how evident the disclosure to those of understanding.
