Among His names—exalted be his glory—is: The Giver of Rulings (al-Mufti)
(291) The witness for this is what we related from the Messenger of God—exalted be his glory: a man asked him regarding kalala (inheritance without direct heirs). The Messenger of God said: God the Almighty said: {They ask you for a ruling. Say: 'God gives you a ruling concerning kalala... God makes clear to you [His law], lest you go astray. And God is Knowing of all things'}.1 The Messenger of God said: "The Giver of Rulings is Ali."
(292) It was related by the chain of the reliable sheikh—may God be pleased with him—regarding the words of the Mighty Speaker: {He is God, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer (al-Muhaymin), the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Exalted is God above whatever they associate with Him}.2 He said: "Ali is the Overseer over the believers. The Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior: he is the Lord Mim. The Creator, the Producer, the Fashioner: he is the Sin." In my view, this refers to the creation of knowledge, not the creation of being; for the First entrusted the creation of being only to His most majestic Name, the Mim. The creation and formation of knowledge were entrusted by the Mim to the Sin and the ranks.
As for al-Salam (The Peace/Perfection): it is among His names—Exalted and Sublime—as the Lord Abu Abd Allah al-Khasibi—may God brighten his face—said at the start of his epistle: "Peace be upon you from the Lord al-Salam, the High, the All-Knowing." He said in the context of a section from the jurisprudence of his large epistle: The proof that He appeared through it—meaning the fire—is the words of the Almighty: {We said, 'O fire, be coolness and peace (salam) upon Abraham'}.3
