(286) He also named him: The Disposer (al-Wakil), when he said to him: "O Ali, you are my Disposer and my Successor," clarifying further by saying: "O God, You are the Successor over the family and the wealth."
(287) This is supported by what was related from the reliable sources by consensus: the Messenger—exalted be his glory—said to Gabriel—peace be upon him: "O my brother, who is for my nation after me?" Gabriel—peace be upon him—returned to him and said: "God the High, the Most High, offers you peace and says: {Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as a Disposer}."1
(288) His word to our Lord Salman the Persian—peace be upon him—who went out on the Day of the Saqifa to the cemetery in Medina; our Master Amir Almuminin—exalted be His bounties—al-Hasan, al-Husayn, and al-Miqdad caught up with him. This report is famous, known as the "Report of the Reins." Our Master said to him: "I have entrusted their account to my Name and my Veil; to him belongs what they possess, and he is sufficient for me as their Disposer."
The Lord Messenger—exalted be his glory—named him: The Judge (al-Qadi)
(289) He said to his companions: "The best judge among you is Ali." He said—exalted be his glory: "Ali is the Judge with Truth." By this name the Arabs used to call Him, saying: "The Judge narrated to us from the Messenger of God." They would come to Him in delegations from Najd and elsewhere saying: "We are the delegation of the Judge, so he may teach us the features of our religion."
(290) Umar said: "The Messenger of God—exalted be his glory—commanded us, if we differed in a matter, to let Ali judge." God the Sublime said: {And God judges with truth, while those they invoke besides Him judge not with anything. Indeed, God is the Hearing, the Seeing}.2
