This is because when the Meaning—exalted be His power—wills to manifest the Name to declare a command or originate a Law, He manifests him with a name, an attribute, a tribe, and a lineage among the tribes and nations where He wills that command and lineage to appear. He undertakes Prophecy and Messengership, clarifying proofs and evidences to his nation. When the Meaning—glory be to Him—wills to honor the Name, He hides him beneath the shimmer of His Essential lights and manifests in the likeness of his form, calling Himself by the name He gave him. He manifests dazzling powers and Divine actions. When the world of those who are "intermingled" (mamzujin)—those who have not reached the rank of the Knowers—witnesses these signs, they think the Name manifested them due to his great status with his Creator and his connection to the light of His Essence, from which he began and to which he returns. None knows the reality—that the Meaning—Exalted—is the one manifest in the likeness of His Name's form and the one manifesting His great power—except he whom God has blessed with His knowledge, whose chest He has expanded by His favor, and for whom He has made a light to be illuminated by His guidance. We have explained what we know from God regarding the names of the Name used for the Meaning—exalted be His majesty—in the Exemplary Manifestations, and the names of the Meaning used for His Name in prayer.
This is supported by what we related from several directions, including from Sheikh Abu Sa'id Maymun ibn al-Qasim al-Tabarani—may God be pleased with him—who said: I asked Sheikh Abu al-Husayn Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jali—may God sanctify his soul—regarding the nine Essential stations of the Name in which the Meaning—glory be to Him—did not remove him in any of them to manifest in the likeness of his form. Which is better: these, or the "Mother of the Exemplary" (Umm al-Mithliyya) which He removed to manifest in the form of the Name? He replied: "The Exemplary are more majestic and higher, for the Meaning—Exalted and Sanctified—removed him and manifested in the likeness of his form as an honor to His Name, while never ceasing from His own being, even if He manifested to the sight."
