Nothing remains but my honor and my religion, And a sharp blade carried by my right hand.

If I am killed today, it brings me near To the mercy of God when He meets me.

He said: When the Prophet—exalted be his glory—became steady on level ground and the people returned, our Master Amir Almuminin—exalted be his glory—looked at the sun as it neared setting while he had not yet finished with the polytheists. He said to it: "Return to the time of your afternoon (Asr)." It returned to its afternoon time, and he killed Dhu al-Khimar and Durayd ibn al-Simma, performing what has been recorded.

(257) It is related that the Messenger of God—exalted be his glory—looked at the sun on the Day of Badr as it neared setting while he had not attained his goal regarding the polytheists. He said to Amir Almuminin—exalted be his glory: "O Ali, the sun has drawn near to setting." He replied: "O Messenger of God, do you wish to attain the goal?" He said: "Yes." Amir Almuminin—exalted be His power—pointed with his hand to the sun to return to its afternoon time; it returned until seventy-two men of the polytheists were killed and as many captured. Amir Almuminin asked: "Are you satisfied, O Messenger of God?" He said: "Yes." Amir Almuminin said to the sun: "Set," and it vanished.

(258) It is related that the Messenger of God—exalted be his glory—was at al-Juhfa when the time for the afternoon prayer arrived. The Messenger of God and those with him prayed, but Amir Almuminin did not pray. When he came, the Prophet—exalted be his glory—said to him: "O Ali, a peaceful slumber has taken me; let me use your thigh as a cushion to sleep." He prepared it for him, and the Messenger of God slept in his lap. The Muslims began going and coming while the Messenger of God slept.
