Her saying: 'O Last' means he is the last of the Successors, for the Successors are four. God the Almighty said: {And when your Lord said to the angels, 'Indeed, I am making a successor upon the earth.' They said, 'Will You place therein one who spreads corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?' He said, 'Indeed, I know that which you do not know.'}1—meaning Adam. The Sublime said regarding David: {O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people in truth and do not follow desire, for it will lead you astray from the way of God. Indeed, those who go astray from the way of God will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account.}2 Moses sought the succession for his brother, saying to his brother Aaron: 'Succeed me among my people and do right.' Ali is to me as Aaron was to Moses, except there is no prophet after me; had there been, it would have been Ali. As for her saying: 'O Outward,' he is manifest over all who oppose him. As for her saying: 'O Inward,' Ali is inward within the nations. As for her saying: 'O He who is All-Knowing of all things,' he is knowledgeable of fates, calamities, judgments, and the Decisive Speech." At that, Umar said: "O Prophet of God, God has indeed favored Ali since the sun spoke to him." The Prophet—exalted be his glory—replied: "God has favored the sun by making it worthy of speaking to Ali."
