It includes what has been recorded in the successive reports of the celestial and terrestrial miracles manifested by our Master, Amir Almuminin—exalted be His power—in the Hashemite Cycle.
That which we explain of this:
(243) It is the first thing I transcribed by hearing from my lord and sheikh, Abu al-Fath Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Baghdadi—may God be pleased with him and make him content. He said to me: "Listen, my son—may God bless you with His knowledge and grant us and you success in speaking and acting in His obedience. Truly, for the Meaning—exalted be His praise and sanctified be His names—there are celestial and terrestrial signs and miracles that He manifested during the days of our lord the Messenger of God—exalted be his glory—and after his occultation. Among them is what Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn al-Shahid narrated to me, from his father, tracing the report back to our Master al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory: 'The first of the miracles manifested by our Master—exalted be his glory—was that he spoke on the night he was born; he recited the Scrolls of Abraham, the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, and the Quran, then he fell silent. This was the first of the terrestrial miracles.'"
(244) After that, Muhammad ibn Ishaq the Judge and Muhammad ibn Umar ibn Aslam al-Waqidi narrated to me, saying: Abd al-Aziz ibn Abi Sabra narrated to us, from al-Dahhak ibn Muzahim al-Balkhi, from Wahb ibn Kaysan and Ma’mar ibn Saba—the client of al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam. They all said: al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam—peace be upon him—narrated to us that the Quraysh said to the Messenger of God—exalted be his glory: "O Muhammad, had we possessed level ground and judgment, and had there been width in our valleys, Abraha ibn al-Sabbah would not have dared to enter upon us with his army. If you were to widen the valley for us, no king of the earth would dare to face us or advance to fight us. So ask your Lord to widen for us the Mountain of Abu Qubays by eighty cubits, and the Red Mountain by eighty cubits, so the total becomes one hundred and sixty cubits."
