(228) By his chain of transmission from al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory—he said: "Whoever worships the form as being limited by length and width like his own form has spoken of corporeality and likeness. Whoever worships the Name without the Meaning has worshipped an originated thing, for the Meaning is before the Name and before the Attributes. Whoever claims to worship the Name, the Form, and the Meaning together has worshipped multiple lords and numerous gods. But whoever recognizes Him through Him and affirms for Him the reality of His knowledge—those are the guided ones."

(229) Muhammad ibn Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Kufi, known as al-Mahalami, narrated to me from Ghaylan ibn Bakr, from Abu Muhammad al-Qasim ibn Salama al-Farisi, from Muhammad ibn Musa al-Karkhi, from Abu Samina, from Muhammad ibn Sadaqa, from Muhammad ibn Sinan—peace be upon them—from al-Mufaddal ibn Umar—peace be upon him—who said: Al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory—said: "Whoever knows God from the direction of the Name has ignored more than he has known. Whoever combines the Name and the Meaning has associated with God that for which He sent down no authority. Whoever says He is not seen has pointed to a hidden, veiled thing. Whoever says sights perceive Him has likened Him to His creation. Whoever says He is like a thing in a thing has limited and embodied Him. Whoever excludes Him from His creation has isolated Him and isolated His kingdom from Him. Whoever says He is not known in any way has negated His existence. But whoever knows Him by His proofs and the clarification of His indication, pointing to Him from where His evidence appeared, and recognizing Him by the manifestation of His power through the miracles he witnessed—those are the companions of Amir Almuminin."
