(213) Among those is what he narrated to me, saying: Abu Abd Allah al-Shirazi narrated to me, saying: The sheikh Abu Abd Allah al-Husayn ibn Hamdan al-Khasibi—may God ennoble his station—narrated to me, saying: Askar ibn Muhammad al-Farisi—may God illuminate his person—narrated to me: Our lord Abu Shu'ayb Muhammad ibn Nusayr al-Numayri—peace be upon him—used to say in his prostration: "You alone I worship, O Ali, and from You I seek aid."
(214) He narrated to me from his sheikh Abu al-Hassan al-Muqri, from his sheikh Abu Ishaq al-Rifa'i, saying: My sheikh al-Khasibi narrated to me from his sheikh Abu Muhammad al-Jannan al-Junbulani al-Farisi—may God illuminate their persons—saying: My lord, ibn Jundab the Orphan—peace be upon him—narrated to me: Our lord Abu Shu'ayb al-Numayri—peace be upon him—used to say in his glorification: "O Muhammad, O Praised One (Mahmud), O Ali, O Worshipped One." He also used to say in his glorification: "Glory be to Him who is a God in the heaven and an Imam in the earth."
(215) Our Master al-Baqir—exalted be his glory—was asked regarding the word of God the Almighty: {It is You we worship and You we ask for help}1. He replied: "{It is You} falls as an indication to the Gate (al-Bab); seeking help is through the Mim; and the intent of worship is for the Ain."
(216) It is related that a man among the seekers asked our Master al-Sadiq—exalted be his glory—regarding bowing (ruku') and prostration (sujud)? He replied: "Prostration is for the Name, and worship is for the Meaning."
(217) By the first chain of transmission from my sheikh, from his sheikhs—may God be pleased with them—a group of monotheists differed regarding worship. Some said: "Worship is for the Name," while others said: "Rather, worship is for the Meaning." They wrote a note concerning this and delivered it to the Lord Abu Shu'ayb al-Numayri—peace be upon him.
