(210) By the chain of transmission from our Master the Sage—exalted be his glory—he said: "Whoever claims to worship the Name without the Meaning has affirmed disbelief, for the Name is originated. Whoever claims to worship the Name and the Meaning together has placed another deity with God. Whoever claims to worship the Attribute through perception has limited the Worshipped; but whoever claims to worship the Meaning through the reality of knowledge, those are the guided ones."

My father, lord, and sheikh narrated to me, saying: The sheikh, my lord Abu al-Hassan Ali ibn Abd Allah al-Muqri—may God be pleased with them both—narrated to me: I asked my lord and sheikh Abu Ishaq Ibrahim ibn Muhammad al-Rifa'i—may God sanctify his soul—regarding our saying: "A Name and a Meaning is God," and our saying: "God is a Name for a Meaning"? He replied: "The indication is for the Name, while the pronoun refers to the Meaning in belief." I said: "O my lord, reveal that to me?" He replied: "The Meaning, in the line of the Imamate, removes the Name and manifests in the likeness of its form—it is He, exalted be His power, in His Essence. This is the reality of belief. However, He may be called by a non-essential name in outward appearance, while in the reality of belief He is the Prince of Bees. Yet you call Him by the two Has, by Muhammad, or by Ja'far, as a veil over His divinity. This only occurs during the Exemplary Manifestations flowing in the lines of Imamate and Prophecy. But if the two forms—the Meaning and the Name—manifest in their own Essences, then the distinction occurs, and the Lord—exalted be His praise and sanctified be His names—is recognized."
