We shall provide what we know regarding this in the chapter comprising the knowledge of the names of Amir Almuminin—exalted be his glory. Since we have mentioned the seven Essential Names He manifested in the human realm, it is necessary to mention His names that belong to Him specifically in the reality of invocation when pointing to Him. These are: The Meaning (al-Ma'na), the Ancient, the Pre-eternal, the One, the Peerless and Besought, the High, the Cause of Causes, the Meaning of Meanings, the Ultimate Goal, and the God of gods.

These are His names for His Essence, which He reserved and singled out for Himself in pre-eternity; He—exalted be his glory—did not bestow them upon His Supreme Name. It is not permissible for anyone other than Him—Exalted—to be invoked by them, nor are they used to point to anyone but Him. The seven names are the names of identification—beginning with Abel and ending with the last—through which He manifested in His Essence to all people out of justice, mercy, and kindness toward His creation. He manifested to them as a creation like them, yet He did not place the Name within any of those stations. It is not permissible to name any but the Meaning, the Ain—exalted be His majesty and sanctified be His names—with the Essential Meaning-names. They are all of a vast, unitary nature, neither divisible, nor partitionable, nor dualized in number. Rather, He is a self-subsisting Essence, Ancient of the Ancients, the Cause of Causes, the Prince of Bees, the Creator, the Pre-eternal, beyond whom there is no goal and behind whom there is no end. He is the Namer of names and the Originator of the realities of things. All names are in need of Him, confessing servitude to Him; He provides them with knowledge, signs, decree, and miracles. He moves things yet does not move; He changes things yet is not changed. Like the engraving on a signet ring, He leaves an impression but no impression is left upon Him; He transforms but is not transformed; He removes but is not removed from His being. Even if He manifests to the sight, this is the root of my doctrine and my religion.
