He continued doing this until all the city's walls fell to the ground; he conquered it, possessed it, and struck the middle of the Jordan River with a spear. It split, and he and his army crossed through its center. He is Joshua son of Nun—exalted be his glory—the Meaning of Meanings and the Essence of Essences, whom neither imaginations nor doubts can encompass.
The Meaning—exalted be His power and glory—manifested as Asaph ibn Berechiah; exalted is our Lord, the Creator, the Most High in Essence and Reality. He manifested what He showed to the Lord Solomon, who is His Name and His Veil—exalted be He whom sights cannot perceive nor veils can hide—by bringing the throne of Bilqis to him before his eye could blink, from the land of Sheba, a city in Yemen between Hadramaut and Sana'a. I saw it during my travels; it is the one upon which God sent the flood of al-Arim.
It is related: a woman would leave her house with a measuring vessel upon her head, walking beneath the trees until her vessel was filled by the fruits falling into it. The Almighty said: {Certainly, there was for Sheba a sign in their dwelling place: two gardens on the right and on the left. Eat from the provision of your Lord and be grateful to Him. A good land and a forgiving Lord.}1 When they disbelieved in God and His blessings, God sent upon them the flood of al-Arim. The Almighty said: {But they turned away [in evasion], so We sent upon them the flood of al-Arim, and We replaced their two gardens with two gardens of bitter fruit, tamarisks, and something of sparse lote trees. That is how We recompensed them because they disbelieved. And do We ever recompense [thus] except the ungrateful?}2 The two gardens mentioned by God in His Book remain in their state until now. Regarding His word: {the flood of al-Arim}3, He intended thereby "abundance." It is said to be the name of the valley from which the flood descended; it is also said to be the name of the mouse that breached the dam.
