As for the People of Reality: Adam—exalted be his glory—is the Lord Muhammad—exalted be his glory—and Eve is Khadija. Adam made it appear that Cain was born from him through procreation; however, Cain was the accursed Adversary, the second Iblis of the devils—may God curse him. When the Lord Abel manifested—who is the Meaning (al-Ma‘na), the Pre-eternal and Ancient—Adam glorified him as a servant glorifies his master. He affirmed that he was his ultimate goal and his Meaning, calling Cain to obey him and commanding his worship. Cain grew arrogant and refused due to the ancient disobedience and opposition within him; this is according to the guided People of Reality.
Regarding what the people of the outward (al-Zahir) among the scholars of Hadith related, some said: Adam clothed Abel—exalted be his glory—in a tunic from the garments of Paradise, honoring him with it. Within it were images of everything in the sea and on land, including birds and wild beasts. Whenever Abel wished to eat from the game of the land or sea, he would look at the image of his desire in the tunic; it would then appear to him fried, grilled, or cooked. Cain envied him for this.
This was the cause of what transpired between them concerning the matter where Abel called him to the offering (al-Qurban). Others related: Adam wished to marry the sister of Cain to Abel, and the sister of Abel to Cain. Cain—may God curse him—refused to comply, defying his father by saying: "I shall only marry my sister, 'Anaq, who was born as my twin." The offering between them was for this reason. This version is from the narration of the people of opposition and the trivial commoners; it is the religion of the Magi established by Iblis—may God curse him—who is Cain, the accursed Adversary, for he wed his sister 'Anaq when he manifested defiance and hypocrisy against Adam. God, the Sublime and Exalted, has cleared the Lord Adam—exalted be his glory, who is the Supreme Name—from establishing among the nations the permissibility of what is forbidden, for the Law is one and does not change.
