(198) From him—sanctified be his names—it is related that he said: "Whoever hears without understanding is deaf; whoever sees without perceiving the limit of vision is blind; whoever speaks without conveying meaning is mute; whoever gains knowledge without acting upon it is dead. May God not make us among those so described."
Abu al-Hassan Ra’iq bin al-Khidr al-Ghassani—may God have mercy on him and sanctify his soul—recited to me:
I walked upon the Path by the praise of my Lord, Upright, not falling prostrate upon my face.
Behold, I am safe from the heat of a Fire Which scorched, by its fervor, both back and side.
That is because I have never invoked any Other than the Lord to whom the Messenger guided.
By him—may God sanctify his spirit:
Whoever witnesses the Remembrance, knowing He is The Maker of what is present and what is hidden;
He whose actions appeared in a manner that Dazzled both sights and intellects;
Who said to creation: "I am the Creator of All beings," having established the causes;
He is the One I worship alone, Even if the world worships multiple lords.
By him—may God clarify his person:
When the servant recognizes the One He worships in eternity,
Through His miracles among mortals, His power amidst the nations,
He denies what he merely saw, Confirming what he has known.
Submitting in total surrender, Glad tidings to him, for he is saved.
