Having presented this measure of miracles and dazzling proofs, and having established the testimonies for them through the verses—showing that they are the work of the God of the earth and the heavens—we shall also mention what the people of knowledge and trustworthy narrators have related regarding the indications by which the Lord Muhammad, Mighty is His Might, pointed toward his Master, Mighty is His Might, calling to him and providing the proof for him.

THE ETIQUETTE OF GOD AND HIS MESSENGER

(164) Among such instances is what Abu al-Hasan Raiq ibn al-Khadar al-Ghassani—may God have mercy on him—narrated to me by his chain of transmission from his men, traced back to the Lord Messenger Muhammad, Mighty is His Might, that he said one day to his companions: "I am disciplining you with the etiquette of God and His Messenger; it is that I command you that a servant should not stand except for his master, a son except for his father, a learner except for his teacher, a student except for the wise one, and the small except for the great. And God commanded us, the assembly of Prophets, that we should not stand except for the Lord, Majestic is His Name."

The narrator said: Amir Almuminin, Mighty is His Might, arrived after a time. When our Master the Messenger of God, Mighty is His Might, saw him, he stood for him and kissed him between his eyes. Abu Dujana Simak ibn Kharshana al-Ansari, peace be upon him, said to him: "O Messenger of God, you just told us that God commanded the assembly of Prophets not to stand except for the Lord. You raised Ali, and you said 'a son does not stand except for his father, a learner except for his teacher, and a student except for his wise one,' yet you are more knowledgeable than Ali, and Ali learned from you. And you said 'the small does not stand except for the great,' yet we saw you stand for Ali though you are older than him?" He, Mighty is His Might, replied: "I stood for the Light that is between his eyes."
