On the Day of the Trench: Our Master Amir Almuminin, Mighty is His Might, looked at the sun as it was about to set while he was in the field of war and combat with Amr ibn Abd Wudd—may God curse him. He said to the sun: "Return to the time of your Asr," and it returned. Then he, Mighty is His Might, killed Amr ibn Abd Wudd—may God curse him—and seized the spoils.

Our Master returned the sun from its setting place in seventeen locations, some during the era of the Messenger of God, Mighty is His Might, and some after his occultation (absence); we shall mention those in their proper place, by the will of God, His aid, and His grant of success.

(162) Among the clear evidences and shining proofs for those of intellect and pure, prevailing minds, is the saying of our Master Amir Almuminin, Mighty is His Might, upon his pulpit in Kufa, announcing and declaring at the end of his sermon known as the "Sermon of Clarification" (Khutbat al-Bayan):

"I am the one who folded its causes and knew its absences, who directed its mirages and mounted its clouds. I am the shaker of the earth and its mountains, and the bringer forth of its treasures and burdens. I am the establisher of the Qibla, the Companion of the Kaaba, and the originator of the Sharia, the quencher of the blazing fire. I am the slayer of Iblis (Satan), the raiser of Idris, the one who brings down the banner of disbelief, and the speaker of every scripture. I destroyed generation after generation. I restored and originated, demolished and annihilated. I know what you conceal and what you reveal, what you eat and what you store. There is no hidden thing but that I possess its keys. I destroyed 'Ad and Thamud and the companions of the well (ar-Rass) and many generations between them. I am the raiser of the heavens and their upholder, the leveler of the earths and their spreader, the planter of trees and their grower, and the splitter of rivers and their director. Ask me about the knowledge of fates, calamities, and testaments, and the decisive speech and judgments; ask me about the birth of Islam and the birth of disbelief; about every lost sheep, and every group that strayed or was guided, and about its leader, its caller, and its sender; and about what was and what shall be until the Day of Resurrection.
