So you commanded me, my Master, and I swallowed him, and he remained in my belly until he repented and turned back, saying what was revealed in the firm revelation through the tongue of the Lord Messenger in His saying: {And Dhu al-Nun, when he went off in anger and thought that We would not decrease his power. Then he called out within the darknesses, 'There is no god except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.'}"
The whale continued: "His saying was an acknowledgment of You, an indication toward You, and an admission to You that You have no partner, no equal, no likeness, and no peer." My Master Amir Almuminin, Mighty is His Might, said to that great whale: "Return to whence you came," and the whale disappeared into the Euphrates. Then my Master Amir Almuminin, Mighty is His Might, struck the Euphrates with the staff, and it returned to its original state.
By his standing over the Euphrates, his address to the fish, and its address to him, his companions multiplied around him and before him, and their clamor and discussion grew regarding what they had heard, perceived, witnessed, and verified. Our Master turned his noble face away from them until the sun set, for they were occupied by what they were experiencing and neglected the Asr prayer. When the sun had set, they came to him and said: "O Amir Almuminin, we were occupied by what we witnessed of this miracle and missed the Asr prayer in its time."
He, Mighty is His Might, said to them: "The prayer is never truly missed by a believer, and it is never attained by a disbeliever." Then Amir Almuminin, Mighty is His Might, said: "O Gazelle [the sun], return to the time of your Asr!" The sun returned to its place in the horizon at the time of Asr; he prayed with them, and then it set. Two mosques were built in Babylon, one of which is known for the location where our Master Amir Almuminin, Mighty is His Might, returned the sun after his return from fighting the Khawarij, when he split the Euphrates and addressed the fish.
