Then he turned the head of his mule and rode away, saying: "March, O Jabir, and know that your Master has revealed a matter that has not been revealed for five hundred years." The people began discussing his affair, saying: "We see nothing but Ali ibn Abi Talib bringing one thing after another, showing them to us so that we might confess to him that he is the Lord of the Worlds—as some people have said of him. Yet we know that in the family of Abd al-Muttalib there is magic, divination, and illusion. For yesterday he returned the sun after it had set, until the people did not doubt it was the sun, and he prayed Asr, then it set immediately. Had it been real, it would have remained in its celestial course from Asr until sunset. And today he calls the dead from a sepulcher, who have been there for ages, and they slip out to him. He claims he ordered the Persians to call them by their names and say, 'Answer Ali ibn Abi Talib.' Not content with that, he addressed them, and then returned skulls which he addressed as he had addressed those before, and each of them answered and spoke to him while we heard it. Then he commanded them to take one another and return to their places—the head carrying a person and the person carrying a head—until no one remained but that his companion carried him. This is a great thing, the likes of which we have never heard."
He continued until he reached Khuza'a, where he prayed with us and stood as a preacher. He spoke words through which he revealed himself and declared what had never been declared before. The people wrote down his sermon and his words, which are preserved from him; that sermon was named "The Revealer" (al-Kashifa). Then he entered Kufa as the sun set. The tribe of Kinda remained discussing his sermon, intending to question him about what he had spoken, yet they were divided (in doubt and discord) because of him. Whenever a leader of a group among them was about to challenge him, that leader would perish so that they would not repeat their questioning, and they would be occupied by their grief for him for days. Then they would return to their original intent, but when they resolved to question him, another leader would die. This remained their state for a year. When this continued and persisted among them, they refrained from challenging him in any of that, and the death of their leaders ceased. This was the last of what I saw of the signs of my Master, Mighty is His Might, upon his return from [fighting] the Khawarij.
