This was among his signs and what I witnessed of him after the fight with the Khawarij and his journey to the cities of Khosrow.
(160) And by the same chain of transmission from Jabir ibn Yazid al-Ju'fi, peace be upon him, who said: I went out to see off Jabir ibn Abd Allah al-Ansari, peace be upon him, as he left Kufa heading for the Hijaz. I reached al-Qadisiyyah with him and spent the night there. I began taking [knowledge] from him and about him, for I knew that I would not meet him again after our parting, as he had grown old, and he had indicated as much to me. Jabir ibn Abd Allah al-Ansari said: "Take a portion from me, for it is as if I see you saying: 'May God have mercy on Jabir.'" I said to him: "I want you to tell me what occurred with Amir Almuminin, Mighty is His Might, on the day he departed from the Market of al-Aqiq."
He said: O Jabir, Amir Almuminin, Mighty is His Might, departed with us from the Market of al-Aqiq—which is the pillar of the Euphrates—on the seventh day. He passed by two sepulchers (nawusayn) of the Persians; it was said they had been there for one thousand five hundred years. Beside them was an estate containing Persian landowners (dehaqin). They came out to meet him, greeting him and congratulating him on his safety, his arrival, and the favor God bestowed upon him through His support and aid. He rewarded them with goodness, then returned to the two sepulchers and stood over them. He called them and asked for the names of those they knew buried within, and those they remembered among their acquaintances who were held therein. They began mentioning people who had remained there for five hundred years, some less and some more.
He said to them: "Call them by their names and the names of their fathers and say to them: 'Indeed, Ali calls you.'" Then he made me stand and said: "O Jabir, witness these Persians and what shall become of them."
