(158) And my sheikh—may God sanctify his soul—narrated to me from his men, may God be pleased with them, that Ubayy ibn Khalaf al-Jumahi attended a gathering of the Pre-Islamic Period (Jahiliyya). They mentioned the state of our Master Muhammad, Mighty is His Might, and Ubayy ibn Khalaf—may God curse him—said: "O Arabs, by al-Lat and al-Uzza, I shall silence Muhammad tomorrow and call him to a matter which his magic cannot overcome. When I go in the morning, go with me all together."
When morning came, Ubayy ibn Khalaf—may God curse him—came to the Messenger of God, Mighty is His Might, with the polytheists of the Arabs who were in Mecca. Ubayy—may God curse him—brought out the jawbone of a camel and said: "O Muhammad, is your Lord able to revive this jawbone and return it as a sound creation?" The Prophet, Mighty is His Might, said: "Yes." Ubayy rubbed it until it became like dust—and he was known for his strength—and said: "Does your Lord return it while it is like this?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Show us that, O Muhammad."
The Messenger of God covered it with his cloak and said: "O Ali, call it and revive it." Amir Almuminin, Mighty is His Might, called out to it: "Return, moist and pure." The Messenger of God, Mighty is His Might, lifted the cloak, and behold, the jawbone had returned as sound bone, with flesh over it, skin over the flesh, and fur over the skin, and it was twitching. Ubayy—may God curse him—said: "This is persistent magic." Then God Almighty revealed: {Does man not consider that We created him from a sperm-drop; then at once he is a clear adversary? And he presents for Us an example and forgets his [own] creation. He says, "Who will give life to bones while they are disintegrated?" Say, "He will give them life who produced them the first time; and He is, of all creation, Knowing"}.
(159) And Abu al-Hasan Raiq ibn Khidr al-Ghassani, known as al-Muhallami, narrated to me: Abu al-Qasim Ali ibn al-Hasan ibn Isa al-Nu'mani narrated to me: Abu al-Husayn Muhammad ibn Ali al-Jali, may the pleasure of the Exalted King be upon him, narrated to me from his sheikh the Lord Abu Abd Allah al-Khusaybi, may God ennoble his station, who said:
