Footnotes

1The Sabians (Al-Sabi'un): Linguistically: Those who leave their religion and adopt another. (Here implying those who leave the material world for the spiritual).

Through it, they know the hidden things of human souls. They reached the knowledge of the "Simple Soul" (The Luminous Form) and knew its witnessed Existential Motions, until they knew what exists by the motion of the Celestial Figures (The Name, The Gate, and The Great Orphan). Therefore, it is obligatory upon the later student of those sciences to ascend by the causes to reach the Presence of the Mighty, the Bestower. There lies Salvation and the acquisition of Eternal Happiness.Note: Whoever wants to view the science of planets, stars, and prediction through them, let him refer to the book Shams al-Ma'arif al-Kubra, or Epistles of the Brethren of Purity (Rasa'il Ikhwan al-Safa), or the Almagest; for delving into this subject requires volumes
