"Whoever is ignorant of his self, then he is more ignorant of the essence of another. And the Master 'Meem' (Exalted be His Might) said:

"The most knowledgeable of you regarding his self is the most knowledgeable of you regarding his Lord."

And your own soul, O ignorant obstinate one, you do not know what it is, nor do you know how is its connection to your body, nor how is its governance of the senses which are the instruments of your body.

So if you are the possessor of a dense body and a subtle, abstract soul, and you are incapable of perceiving it and verifying its knowledge, and you cannot grasp it, restrict it, or verify [the modality of] its existence—while it is within you, upholding your whole being...

How then is it possible for you to encompass Him who encompassed the heavens and the earth, and what is within them and between them, in power and ability? And [how do you] affirm for His Essence what you affirm for all [other] essences, and do not strip Him—despite His Greatness—of quiddities (Mahiyyat), configurations (Hay'at), attributes, instruments, and movements?

And His description in the Quran is of clear argument and proof:

{Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One, Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, Nor is there to Him any equivalent.}1
