Clarification Regarding the Visible Luminous Form

From Al-Mufaddal (Peace be from him), from Jabir (Peace be from him), he said: Abu Ja'far (Exalted be His Might) was asked about the interpretation of "The Difficult and the Most Difficult" (Al-Sa'b al-Mustas'ab).

He said:

"The 'Difficult' is acknowledging the Visible Form, and the 'Most Difficult' is submitting to it with Servitude (Ubudiyyah)1. Both are a concealed secret; so whoever understands that and divulges it, he has indeed violated the secret of Allah."

He said: And by the chain of transmission from Al-Karkhi, from Ismail bin Ali, from Muhammad bin Sadaqa, from Muhammad bin Sinan (Peace be upon him), from Al-Mufaddal (Upon us be his peace), he said:

Al-Sadiq (Exalted be His Might) said:

"Whoever knows the Meaning (Al-Ma'na) through the perspective of the Name, he has been ignorant of more than he has known.

And whoever worships the Meaning and the Name [together], he has committed polytheism.

And whoever says that He is not seen, he has referred to non-existence.

Footnotes

1The Form is established in the Meaning in terms of Himself (min haythu huwa), because the Almighty does not manifest through other than His Essence. However, the Form from our perspective is restricted and possesses a shape and figure. The forms are many, but the Meaning is One. Therefore, in the science of Tawhid (Oneness), it is not correct to turn to the Form saying: "There is no god but You" (addressing the Form directly with the second-person feminine/object pronoun anti)... Let the disputant remember that the Visible Form is not the Totality of the Creator from our perspective.
