Indeed, Allah bestowed upon him [the Name] His Name, His Form, His Names, and His Attributes. And indeed, the Names, Attributes, and Descriptions apply to the Wali, because Allah is too Sublime for a name, an attribute, or a description to apply [directly] to Him1.
Ibn Sinan (Peace be upon him) said: "Our Master al-Baqir (May He be exalted) said: 'Indeed, behind me is an Other (Ghayr), and it is not incumbent upon you to know that Other.'" He intended by this [the One] Veiled2 by the Veil.
We said: "For what meaning/purpose did He establish the Human Nature (Nasut)?"
He said: "For the cause of the existence of your bodies.
Footnotes
1The Absolute, Abstract Light is the Worshipped Meaning manifest in the Visible Form (The Intermediary Goal). The Ordered Form is the Eternal Meaning (Al-Ma'na al-Azal), stripped of names, descriptions, and attributes; [He is] Ancient by Essence (in terms of Himself), because the Almighty does not manifest except by His Essence, not by any of His creatures. (He is Him in Reality and Substance, not in Vision and Appearance). The Attributes of creation and formation, and the Names of the Lord of the Worlds, apply to the Master "M" (The Meem). It is stated in Tuhfat al-Akhyar: "All the Names of Eternity by which He is indicated, and the Attributes He created for His servants—the description of His existents—their placement is with the 'Meem' due to his nearness to Him and closeness to Him."The Knower (Al-Alim) said regarding His Might: "Whenever you describe the Eternal (Exalted is He) with an attribute, or describe Him with a description, or name Him with a name, or liken a likeness to Him, or point to Him...[Attributes] such as: Hearing, Seeing, Knowing, Aware, Powerful, Subjugator, First, Last, Inner, and Outer; and likewise, attributes like Face, Hands, Side, and Flank, and whatever resembles or is akin to that—you have removed the Meaning (Al-Ma'na) from it and assigned it to the Greatest Name."
2"The One Veiled by the Veil" is the Inner Meaning (Al-Ma'na al-Batin), the Inaccessible Mystery (Ghayb), and the Eternity elevated above comprehension and total gnosis. None knows What He is except Him. Allah did not task creation with knowing Him in totality, for that is beyond the capacity of the intellect.
