Allah is too Sublime to descend into a dense1, murky house, but He descends into His Warning Soul (Al-Nafs al-Muhadhira), which is the Goal/End, and He manifests Himself in the Human Nature (Nasut). This is [the meaning of] His saying:

"And Allah warns you of Himself." The Goal is the first of the stations of Allah.

We said: "Upon whom does the Name fall (apply)?"

He said: "The name ‘Ali’ applies to the Human Nature (Nasut), and the name ‘Allah’ applies to the Divine Nature (Lahut). Ali is Allah and Allah is Ali, because that Human Nature was known by its name, just as the human nature of every creature is known by its name. It was only called Nasut (Human Nature) by this expression for the sake of existence and to establish the possibility of Gnosis (Ma'rifa)."

Footnotes

1He sanctified the Meaning (Al-Ma'na) from descending into the density and murkiness of human bodies in His absolute sense. He emphasized that the Almighty descends via the Luminous Soul (the veil of Divine Power), which is the intermediary goal for reaching the station of true gnosis of the Worshipped Meaning. This is the first station of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), which He manifests from our perspective, according to our need, and in our likeness through the four natures; this is what is termed "the transition of the Essence (Jawhar) through the Attribute (Sifa)."Al-Makzun (Sanctified be his secret) said: "The bodies, upon their appearance to the eyes in human form, did not contain [the Essence]." He also said: "That which issued from Him did not equal Him in rank; neither 'No' nor '...[did not]' applies to what He enacted upon him."Our Master Ja'far al-Sadiq (Exalted be his Might) said: "Negate from us the outlines and forms that you see, and affirm for us the indications and the Power that you have recognized."
