So the Holy Soul (Al-Nafs al-Qudsiyya) becomes solitary in seeking its principles (Mabadi) and yearns for its world.

[This is] due to the heedlessness of the Natural Spirit and its occupation with governing its instruments and growing them through eating and drinking, so that its body may be strong for gathering, study (Mudhakara), and searching for the realities of matters1.

And [so that] it [the Holy Soul] would have the faculty (Malaka) of turning away from the body upon its cutting off [from the world] to the Remembrance of the Deity, His Tawhid, and the search for the secrets of His worlds and the ranks of His Holiness.

And [it undertakes] the Wayfaring (Suluk) in the ranks of His Lights according to the coming order, by arriving at His knowledge and the knowledge of the Figures (Ashkhas) of every rank from the World of Lights and the World of Abstracts.

So there occurs for the body an occupation with what suits it and for the Soul, [there is] an occupation with what concerns it. And due to the frequency of its study (Mudhakara) and its yearning (Tashawwuq) for its world, a Yearning Correspondence (Munasaba Shawqiyya) occurs for it. So the Gleams of Lights shine upon it, along with the Joy of Might and Majesty.
