He, may his glory be exalted, said: 'As for you, O Mihran, are you doubting your Master Musa?' He said: 'I am only doubting you because no Imam has appeared as black as you or otherwise.' He, may his glory be exalted, said: 'Woe to you! Do you not fear the might of the Lord of the worlds and His vengeance? Woe to you! I will remove the doubt from your heart, if Allah wills.' Then he summoned the doorkeeper and said: 'Do not let him enter to me after this day unless I permit him to do so.' So, he left his presence saying: 'Woe to the change of my destination!' He went out to the plain, and behold, the clouds had parted, and the gloom had lifted. He was wandering, pondering, when he saw a palace surrounded by palm trees, trees, and fragrant plants. Its door was open, so he approached the door and entered the palace. Behold, there was everything that the souls desire and the eyes delight in. And my Master, may his glory be exalted, was on a bed of gold, and the light of his face outshone the light of the sun, and around him were servants and attendants. When he saw him, he was bewildered. He said to him: 'O Mihran, is your Master black or white?!' Mihran fell down in prostration. He, the Almighty and Glorious, said: 'Had it not been for your past service with us, We would have brought vengeance upon you.' Mihran said: 'So Allah inspired me to recite: {That is the favor of Allah; He bestows it upon whom He wills. And Allah is the possessor of great favor.}' Then the palace and those in it vanished from me, and I returned to my place terrified. Behold, my Master was there, on a mule. He said to her: 'Say to him.' The mule spoke to me in eloquent language: 'O scribe, is your Master black or white?' I fell down in prostration. He, may his glory be exalted, said: 'Raise your head, for I have forgiven you. Indeed, your doubt is from your lack of knowledge.' Then he said to me: 'Look now.' I saw him like the full bright moon on the night of its completion. Then he said: 'I am that black one, and I am that white one.' Then he dismounted from the mule and said: {Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His unseen to anyone. Except to those whom He has approved of Messengers.}"1
Yes, he did not fear the might of the Lord of the worlds because he did not know that the Lord of the worlds was manifesting before him... But when he saw the power, he prostrated before it and acknowledged his servitude to it.
