How can he be restrained for whom the iron softens at his mention, and for whom the nature of minerals and all existing things is determined by their acceptance of their (the Imams') authority?

Khān al-Ṣa'ālīk (The Inn of the Destitute) where Our Master al-Hādī (May His Glory be Mighty) was placed

Ṣāliḥ ibn Saʿīd said: "I entered upon our Master Abū al-Ḥasan al-Hādī (May His Glory be Mighty) and said: 'May I be made your sacrifice, in all matters they sought to extinguish your light and diminish your status, even to the point that they lodged you in this most despicable inn, Khān al-Ṣa'ālīk (The Inn of the Destitute).' He said: 'Is that where you are, O son of Saʿīd?' Then he gestured with his hand and said: 'Look.' I looked, and behold! there were delightful meadows and flourishing gardens, in them were fragrant beautiful women, and youths as if they were hidden pearls, and birds, and gazelles, and gushing rivers. My sight was bewildered and dazzled, and my eye was worn out. He said: 'Wherever we are, this is for us, O son of Saʿīd, and we are not in Khān al-Ṣa'ālīk.' "1

Glory be to God, who manifested weakness in their eyes, so they presumed it was His weakness, but manifested weakness in the eyes of His loyal friends, so they recognized it as wisdom and power!

Al-Ṣaqr ibn Abī Dulaf said: "When al-Mutawakkil took our Master Abū al-Ḥasan (May His Glory be Mighty) [into custody], I came to inquire about his news. Al-Zarrāqī, who was al-Mutawakkil's chamberlain, looked at me and gestured for me to enter upon him. I entered upon him and he said: 'O Ṣaqr, what is the matter with you?' I said: 'Goodness, O Master.' He said: 'Sit.' I became distressed by what had passed and what was to come, and I thought: 'I made a mistake by coming.' He said: Then he dismissed the people from him and said to me: 'What is your business, and why have you come?' I said: 'Goodness.'
