From Jabir al-Ju'fi (from him is peace), our Master al-Baqir (may his glory be exalted) said: 'O Jabir, negate what you see and affirm what you know.' I said: 'O my Master! If I am to negate what I see with my eye, then what I know with my heart is ignorance.' He said: 'Negate what you see of the image, and affirm what you know of the power of your Master, the *Anza' Batin*.' I said: 'O my Master, what is the *Anza' Batin*?' He said: 'He is your Master, the *Anza'* (divested) from humanity, the *Batin* (hidden) in Divinity. And He is not the image, and the image is not He.' I said: 'O my Master, how is He not the image, and the image is not He?' He said: 'Indeed, the seen image is the universal manifestation. He (Exalted is He) is an image, but not like images; and a body, but not like bodies; and an instrument, but not like instruments; and a light, but not like lights.'1
From al-Mufaddal ibn 'Umar (from him is peace): Indeed, our Master Amir Al-Mouminine (may his glory be exalted) appeared in the *jins* (genus/kind) while He is the One who gives *jins* to all kinds, and the Lord of the Garden and mankind. Because the creation did not have it within them to know, or find, or witness an image that was not similar to their own images.2
Detractors’ Allusions to the Concept of the Image
Now, we will clarify the belief of the "Muqassirah" (detractors/those who fall short) regarding the concept of the "Image" of the Lord (Glorified is He), and whether such reports are found in their possession. If we were to return to *Kitab al-Tawhid* by Sheikh al-Saduq, it would be sufficient for whoever seeks the truth and the knowledge. The reason for al-Saduq's compilation of this book was because of the reports narrated in their books, which the "Nawasib" (enemies) used to taunt them, [claiming] that the Shi'a were *Mushabbihah* (anthropomorphists) and *Mujassimah* (corporealists).
