I said: "What do you say regarding fasting on it?"
He said: "[It is] its breaking without gloating (tashmit)." Then he said: "[Or] its fasting without affirmation (tathbit). Do you know which day that was?"
I said: "You are more knowledgeable of it than I, O my Master."
He said: "Indeed, when Allah (Mighty and Majestic) created the Light on Friday, on the first day of the month of Ramadan, He then created the Darkness on Wednesday, the Day of Ashura, and He made for each of them a law and a curriculum. O servant of Allah, indeed the best thing you can perform on the Day of Ashura is to intentionally take pure clothes and wear them, undo your buttons, and uncover your head and your arms. Then go out to a desolate land where no one sees you, or in your house, you and your brothers, then say:
'O Allah, punish those who fought Your Messengers, opposed them, split from them, worshipped other than You, and deemed lawful Your prohibitions. And curse the leaders, the masters, the elders, the followers, whoever was of them, and whoever was pleased with their deed, with a great curse. O Allah, hasten the relief (faraj) of the believers and rescue them from the hands of the hypocrites, the misguiders, the disbelievers, and the deniers. And raise their building above every building, their status above every status, and their condition above every condition. And make, O Allah, their word the highest, and the word of their enemies the lowest. Manifest their right, their Sunnah, and their Sharia. And make for us and for them, from Your presence, a supporting authority.'
(Then perform Qunut after the supplication and say):
