This hadith contains the breaking of backs, the scattering of ranks, and the blackening of the pages that gathered lies about what happened in Ashura. For the Negligent, over time, become despotic in lying against the Pure Progeny, adding lies upon lies day after day to what happened in Karbalā’, until their habit became the humiliation of the Family of Allah and making them despicable before the enemies of Allah. You see their preachers and their Rawzhakhuni reciters increasing day after day in diminishing the House of the People of Prophethood, making them slaves before the enemies of Allah—may Allah curse them—and having the enemies of Allah beat them, uncover the faces of their women, and humiliate them. Far be it from Allah to do this to His chosen ones.

Many Maqatil (books of martyrdom) have been written, with great disparity and difference between them. There were ancient Maqatil written in the first centuries of which nothing remains but the name for many reasons.

The number of Maqatil books written from the second Hijri century to the tenth Hijri century is about 77 books, some in Arabic and some in Persian. There is a printed section and an unprinted section.1

It is also noticeable that all the Maqatil books written in the first centuries are Naṣibī books written by the pens of the enemies of the Family of Muḥammad. The matter is up to you if you take the command of your Master and your belief from the likes of these pens:

(Al-Ṭabarī, d. 310 AH; Ibn Al-Athīr, d. 630 AH in Al-Kāmil, Abū Al-Fidā’, d. 732 AH, and Ibn Kathīr, d. 774 AH—these narrated from Al-Ṭabarī).

There is also Ibn A‘tham Al-Kūfī, d. 304 AH in Al-Futūḥ, Al-Mas‘ūdī, d. 364 AH in Al-Murūj wa Al-Dhahab, and Abū Al-Faraj Al-Isfahānī in his Maqatil, d. 365 AH.

The oldest 6 Maqatil books written:

‘Ammār ibn Mu‘āwiyah ibn Muslim Al-Duhnī, d. 133 AH. Note: Al-Ṭabarī narrated a section from the book of ‘Ammār ibn Muslim Al-Duhnī.

Abū Mikhnaf Lūṭ ibn Sa‘īd, d. 157 AH.

Hishām ibn Muḥammad Al-Kalbī, d. 206 AH.

Abū ‘Ubaydah Ma‘mar ibn Muthannā Al-Taymī, d. 210 AH.

Naṣr ibn Muzāḥim Al-‘Aṭṭār, author of the book Waqi‘at Siffin, d. 212 AH.

Abū Al-Ḥasan ‘Alī ibn Muḥammad Al-Madā’inī, d. 224 AH.
