Reflect on his expressions. By Allah, they contain sufficient reason for all the torment and scheming that befalls the Shī‘ah.
From Sālim ibn Abī Al-Ja‘d, he said: A man from among us told me: I came to our Master Al-Ḥasan ibn ‘Alī (may his glory be exalted) and said: "O son of the Messenger of Allah, you have humiliated our necks and made us, the group of the Shī‘ah, slaves. Not a man has remained with you." He said: "And why is that?" I said: "Because you handed the matter over to this tyrant." He said: "By Allah, I only handed the matter over to him because I found no supporters. If I had found supporters, I would have fought him night and day until Allah judged between me and him. But I knew the people of Kūfah and tested them, and no sound one among them is suitable for me because they are corrupt. They have no loyalty and no commitment in word or deed. They are divided, and they tell us that their hearts are with us, but their swords are drawn against us."1
Look at the address of those who call themselves the Shī‘ah to their Master, so you may know their condition, and look at his description of them.
Our Master Al-Ḥasan Al-Mujtabā (may his glory be exalted) said to the people of Kūfah: "O people of Kūfah, if your soul were not distracted from you except for three traits, it would be distracted: your killing of my father, your plundering of my baggage, and your stabbing of my abdomen. I have pledged allegiance to Mu‘āwiyah, so listen to him and obey."2
The Killing of Our Master Al-Ḥusayn (may his glory be exalted)
It came in the report we mentioned at the beginning of the research: {"... and ascend to a great height."} He said: The killing of Al-Ḥusayn (Exalted beyond death). Who, then, killed Al-Ḥusayn (may his glory be exalted, may the King of the Kingdom be exalted from being reached by the edge of a sword or the thrust of a spear), but the report speaks of the outward appearance, that is, what was made to seem so in the eyes of the beholders.
