"May Allah fight you! You have filled my heart with pus, loaded my chest with rage, and made me gulp down draughts of anxiety, one after another. You have ruined my judgment with your disobedience and abandonment, until Quraysh said that the son of Abī Ṭālib is a brave man but knows nothing of war. May Allah bless their father! Is there any of them who is harder and more established in it than me? I rose up in it before I reached twenty, and here I am now nearing sixty."
He remained disobeyed until he was "killed" while he was among them (may His majesty be exalted beyond killing, this was only to establish the proof against this misguided creation). But there is no opinion for one who is not obeyed.
Their Treachery to Our Master Al-Ḥasan (may his glory be exalted) and Their Betrayal
Then their abandonment continued in the time of our Master Al-Ḥasan (may his glory be exalted).
Our Master Al-Ḥasan Al-Mujtabā (may his glory be exalted) said regarding his followers from the people of Kūfah: "By Allah, I see that Mu‘āwiyah is better for me than these people who claim that they are my followers. They sought to kill me, plundered my baggage, and took my property. By Allah, for me to take a covenant from Mu‘āwiyah by which I secure my blood and the safety of my family is better than for them to kill me, which would cause my household and family to be ruined. By Allah, if I fought Mu‘āwiyah, they would seize me by the neck and hand me over to him peacefully. By Allah, for me to make peace with him while I am mighty is better than for him to kill me while I am a captive, or for him to grant me a favor, which would become a precedent over Banū Hāshim for the rest of time, and Mu‘āwiyah and his descendants would continue to boast of it over our living and our dead."1
