They are the Children of Israel of this time, and they are the killers of the prophets in every era, as our Master Al-Ṣādiq said when he informed Al-Mufaḍḍal that the killers of Al-Ḥusayn visit Al-Ḥusayn, then he told him, "And they are the killers of the prophets in every era."
The Negligent are Those Whom Allah Guided, but They Preferred Blindness Over Guidance
From Al-Faḍl Abū Al-‘Abbās, from our Master Abū ‘Abdillāh (may his glory be exalted) that he said: And His saying: {"Thamūd denied [the truth] by reason of their transgression."} He said: Thamūd are a group of the Shī‘ah. For Allah, Exalted is He, says: {"And as for Thamūd, We guided them, but they preferred blindness over guidance, so the bolt of the humiliating punishment seized them."} And the bolt is the sword when Al-Qā'im emerges. His saying, Exalted is He: {"Then the Messenger of Allah said to them..."} He is the Prophet (may Allah bless him and his family): {"... [Maintain] the she-camel of Allah and [give] her to drink."} He said: The she-camel is the Imām who understood from Allah and understood from His Messenger. {"And [give] her to drink."} means: He has the source of knowledge. {"But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and leveled it."} He said: In the return (Al-Raj‘ah). {"And He did not fear the consequence thereof."} He said: He does not fear its like when he returns.1
This noble tradition clarifies that the Negligent are those who preferred blindness over guidance, and that they are remnants of the people of Thamūd. He said, may his glory be exalted, "Thamūd denied [the truth] by reason of their transgression." He said: A group of the Shī‘ah. Then He said: {"... but they preferred blindness over guidance,"} meaning they preferred denial and negligence over the path of truth.
