Al-Mufaddal, peace comes from him, said: I asked my Mawla Al-Sadiq, may his glory be exalted: 'Inform me about the death and killing of the Imam, and how that happens.' He smiled until His molar teeth appeared. Then He said: 'Perhaps you are speaking of the killing and slaughter of Al-Husayn, the killing of Amir Al-Mouminine, and the killing of Zechariah, John, and Jesus.' I said: 'That crosses my mind, O my Mawla.' Al-Sadiq, may his glory be exalted, said: 'O Mufaddal, these are God's chosen ones, His friends, and His best. Do you imagine that God would make them taste the heat of iron at the hands of their enemies? That is only for the sake of confirming the proof of God against them in the outer (Zahir). But as for them being killed or slaughtered, no. Indeed, God preserves His friends and His chosen ones from that.'1
He laughed until His molar teeth appeared. Imagine with me, O believer, the beauty of the sight, your Lord laughing at those who attempted deceit, and His greatness over it. Look at the ugliness of the image of the denier—you see him now scowling and frowning. This incident of laughter is repeated in several places, and it contains a clear indication of a matter hidden from the general public to which we will point for benefit. The same meaning is found with the Messiah concerning the issue of laughter.
But You, O Lord, will laugh at them; You will scoff at all the nations.2
Prophet David, may his glory be exalted, said: 'He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.'3
Glory be to Him! He scoffs at all the nations because they rejected Him, opposed Him, and did not follow Him. He will neither alleviate their distress nor grant them success in their endeavor.
{God scoffs at them and extends them in their transgression, wandering blindly}4
We will also mention some reports with the same meaning. So, consider with me the meaning of laughter in places that are not its context.
In a report: Shimr, may God curse him, became angry and sat on the chest of "Al-Husayn", grasped His beard, and intended to kill Him. Al-Husayn laughed and said to him: 'Are you killing me and you do not know who I am?' He replied: 'I know you with true knowledge. Your mother is Fatimah Al-Zahra, and your father is Ali Al-Murtada, and your grandfather is Muhammad Al-Mustafa, and your opponent is the Most High Ali. I will kill you, and I do not care.'5
