"Our Mawlana Zayn Al-Abidin said in the supplication known as Abi Hamzah Al-Thumali, peace be upon him: 'You are not veiled from Your creation, except that evil deeds veil them from You.'1
Due to my bad deeds, you were absent from me. Magnificent is He who is not veiled from His creation, yet their sins veil them from Him. So, due to your bad deeds, He was absent from you, and due to your bad deeds, you saw Him murdered and thought Him oppressed and wronged.
Al-Mufaddal ibn Umar, peace comes from him, said: Our Mawlana Al-Sadiq, may his glory be exalted, said: 'Indeed, they surrounded Al-Husayn when they surrounded Him, and if He had wished to shout at them, burn and destroy them, He would have done so. But He intended by that the misguidance of some people and the guidance of others. When He appealed to them and they did not accept from Him, He showed them the killing from Himself. He stood, and they stood. Then He called out a call that all creatures could hear: {They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but it was made to resemble for them}2 3.
He established the proof against them, but they rebelled against the command of their Lord.
Here lies the secret and the reality of the matter: the guidance of some people and the misguidance of others. Imagine if our Master Muhammad ibn Al-Hasan were to manifest tomorrow and clearly state that what happened in Karbala was nothing but illusion and confusion, you would see the armies of the Muqassirah (those who fall short) gathered against Him, fighting His religion, and their entire argument and proof would be: 'Were you mocking us?'
Yes, because of what our hands have earned, and they were not unjust to us—magnificent is their High Glory.
Al-Mufaddal ibn Umar, peace comes from him, said to our Master Al-Sadiq, may his glory be exalted: 'My Master, inform me about the death and killing of the Imam.' He said: 'These are God's chosen ones, His friends, and His best. Do you imagine that God, Glorified and Exalted, would let their enemies inflict the heat of iron upon them? This is only for the sake of confirming the proof for them against you. Their example is only like the example of the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, through His saying, the Exalted: {They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but it was made to resemble for them}. This characteristic is the characteristic of the killing of the Prophets and the Successors.'4
