The meaning of His appearing to them in the form of Light (Nuraniyyah) is the form by which the covenant was taken from His friends in the first dust ("Am I not your Lord?"). The form of Light is the form of reminders, which the believer remembers and the disbeliever remembers. Do you not see, my brother, that when a dead person dies, he sees it, whether he is a believer or a disbeliever?

So, if the believer sees it in his life, and you say "in a dream," we ask you: where does the disbeliever see it?

However, He, Glorified be He, is the one who said: 'I am the one who took the covenant from the souls, "Am I not your Lord?"'1 2

Thus, the covenant was taken by the form of Light that no created being can deny.

Our Mawlana Al-Sadiq, exalted is His glory, said: 'Seventy thousand mighty and severe angels surrounded Al-Husayn, exalted is His glory, on that day. Each of them was saying: "O my Mawla, command me with Your order! By the glory of the one who never dies, if You commanded me to destroy it upon them, to flatten it over them, to drown them, or to burn them, I would do it!" He, His peace be upon us, said: "God, Exalted and Magnificent, has set a time for Iblis, which we do not break." Then He called the people of the two weighty things (humans and jinn) and gathered them in an area smaller than a ring-hole. Then He asked the angels and the believers with Him: "Does this manifestation of His power lack anything, or is anything concealed from Him?" They said: 'No.' Then He sent them away, and each returned to his land. Then He came to the Radwa Mountains. No believer remained who did not come to Him, and He was on a throne of light, surrounded by Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and all the Prophets, exalted is their glory, and behind them the believers, and behind them the angels, all watching what Al-Husayn, exalted is His glory, says. He indeed comes to Karbala every Ashura day. No one, celestial or terrestrial, of the believers remains who does not surround Him, even God, Exalted and Magnificent, O Mufaddal! This, by God, is the exaltation above which there is nothing, and beyond which there is no goal for any seeker.3

2On the authority of Zurarah, who said: I asked Abu Abdullah about the saying of God: {And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam—from their loins—} up to {They said: Yes (Bala)} ($7:172$). He said: 'Muhammad was the first to say: "Yes (Bala)."' I asked: 'Was it a sighting of direct witnessing (Mu'ayyanah)?' He said: 'Yes. So He established knowledge (ma'rifah) in their hearts, but they forgot that Covenant (Mithaq), though they will remember it later. And were it not for that, no one would know who their Creator is, nor who their Sustainer is.
