When he heard that, he was angered by his words and told his commanders: 'Seize him!' They rushed at him with swords and poles. Gabriel spat a single spit on their faces, and they fell on their faces, inverted. The cursed Umar ibn Sa'd also fell from his throne onto his face. When he and his companions regained consciousness, Gabriel had departed from them, and they saw nothing. Umar ibn Sa'd's grief, terror, and fear increased. He looked at his companions and said: 'Woe to you! Have you heard of anything like what happened to you? Have you seen anything like what I saw?' They said: 'We have never heard or seen such a thing, nor has it reached us that one man could enter upon a king like you, who has gatekeepers, chamberlains, and commanders, and enter upon them from where no one knows or perceives until he stands before him, speaks to you like that, and then, when you and we intended to seize him, he spat on our faces, and we fell on our faces!'
Umar ibn Sa'd said: 'Then tell me what this is.' Two old men spoke up and said: 'May God mend the Prince's condition! Do not be alarmed by what you saw. It was nothing but Iblis appearing to us and you to mislead us.' He said: 'Woe to you! Iblis is one of our aids in what we intend, the killing of the son of the Messenger of God. How could he frighten and terrorize us? This matter has indeed troubled my heart and chest and preoccupied me.'
Another man from the group spoke: 'May God mend the Prince's condition! I am certain of the knowledge of that, and no one else knows it.' He said: 'Tell me what you know.' He said: 'Al-Husayn and His father were previously seen doing a kind of magic. As for His father, many things of this kind have reached you concerning him, and He claimed that His magic was a sign and a proof.' He said: 'You spoke the truth and were correct. Many things concerning His magic have reached us, and this matter cannot be attributed to anything but magic, and what you have just reminded me of. Were it not for you reminding me of His magic, I would have considered withdrawing from fighting Him, and I was about to withdraw from Him. But bring me my bow! My heart has been strengthened, and my fear has departed from me.'
