If you say: Allah has said in His Book the opposite of what you have said, and it is His saying—Mighty is He as a Speaker: "So whoever Allah wants to guide - He expands his breast to [contain] Islam; and whoever He wants to misguide - He makes his breast tight and constricted"1.

And The Exalted said: "Indeed, you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills"2.

And He said: "He whom Allah guides is the [rightly] guided, but he whom He leaves astray - never will you find for him a protecting guide"3.

And what justice is there in this, if Allah guides whom He wills and misguides whom He wills?

The answer—and success is by Allah: Indeed, Allah the Exalted has indicated regarding these verses, by means of others in His Book, that He did this to them because of their deservingness [of it]; so He guided a people who deserved guidance, and He left astray a people who deserved error.

The Exalted said: "Indeed, Allah does not guide him who is a liar and a disbeliever"4.
