For the Stations (al-Maqamat) charged everyone according to his capacity, and all their speech has a correct meaning.

By the life of Allah, verily all these reports are correct, and all the reports are beautiful. But where is the inquiry and investigation, and the scrutiny of the report’s meaning, and the uncovering of what is hidden of its meaning, and its ambiguity with other than it? And where is he who asks about what has become difficult for him?

And the Truthful One (al-Sadiq)—may his might be exalted—has said: "Questioning is the key to speech."

And he—may his might be exalted—said: "We were established for you so that you may ask us."

And he—may his might be exalted—said: "May Allah have mercy on the weak among our Shia (partisans), for they are of the People of Submission (Ahl al-Taslim).

And if the speech of the Imams were to be interpreted according to its literal meaning (Zahir), and accepted without a rational proof testifying to it, that would be (and I seek refuge in Allah )an absurdity.

Rather, it is through investigation that we have deduced the Esoteric (Batin) from the Exoteric (Zahir), and understood what was hidden of their speech—may their might be exalted—because they charged everyone according to his capacity, and everything that issued from them possesses a correct meaning.
