Eating apples settles the stomach (i.e., softens it); meaning: the inward sciences are the salvation of the believer. Chewing frankincense strengthens the molars, expels phlegm, and removes mouth odor. Its meaning: Looking into the sciences of Allah—Glory be to Him—strengthens the heart of the believer upon the gnosis of Allah, negates from him the Opposite (Al-Didd), and sweetens his spirit.
Sitting in the mosque after sunrise is faster in [bringing] provision than journeying for the sake of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. The mosque (Al-Masjid) signifies the gnosis of the Imam from the time he appeared until the final Imam appears—which is the Fixed Station (Al-Maqam al-Thabit). Steadfastness in his gnosis negates doubt and suspicion regarding his affair, and facilitates meeting him, looking upon him, and receiving sciences from him.
The quince strengthens the weak heart, sweetens the stomach, sharpens the intellect, emboldens the coward, and beautifies the offspring. The quince (Al-Safarjal) signifies the gnosis of the Persons (Al-Ashkhas) through Luminosity (Al-Nuraniyya). Whosoever knows the Persons, his heart is strengthened upon the gnosis of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and upon that which reaches him from the Gate (Al-Bab); this brings him forth to purity and courage until he calls unto his Lord.
