There is no believing servant who begins and ends his day fasting until he is permitted to break the fast, except that he has the reward of the fasters, the luminous houses, the beautiful countenance, and the sublime Gnosi and abundant knowledge; they have been brought out from the shade of finitude, which are the [material] houses, to the proximity of the Lord and His pleasure. Whosoever begins his day as a Gnostic of Allah has attained the Highest Kingdom (alMalakut al-A'la).
The best of struggle (Jihad) is the believers' struggle against their own selves regarding doubts and the pursuit of desires. Awaken from your sleep by day and by night, and let none of you sleep without purity (Tahara), lest you exit the boundary of Faith into the boundary of Disbelief. Do not be heedless of the remembrance of Allah morning and evening and at all times. Do good, that you may be of its folk; and reject evil, for by that you draw near to the virtuous, luminous life.
When you have known your Lord, then seek the esoteric sciences (al-Ulum al-Batina) to complete your Gnosis (Ma'rifa). Act upon what He has commanded you, so that you may be purified thereby. Pour the esoteric sciences upon yourselves abundantly, for in that is your salvation. Purify your hearts and rectify your intentions in accordance with what your tongues utter of the Gnosis of Allah.
