If you distance people in the exoteric sciences, then keep them away and expel them; do not let them approach your mosques or your congregations. Keep away those who contend with you in your religion—those who claim [to possess] that which you adhere to. It was said: Single out the friends of Allah (Awliya Allah) with submission and welcome, and distance yourselves from those who broadcast the secret, for they only desire thereby hypocrisy, reputation, and leadership.

Whosoever seeks knowledge with insight, do not withhold it from him, for he is the one who is saved. Whosoever seeks it without insight, then treat him with diplomacy and impart to him word after word until his heart is purified and his insight increases. Whosoever seeks it out of obstinacy, give him nothing and deny him. Adhere to the etiquettes of Allah, Mighty and Majestic is He, where He says: {"Then if you perceive in them sound judgment, release their property to them"}1.

And His saying: {"And do not incline toward those who do wrong, lest you be touched by the Fire, and you would not have other than Allah any protectors; then you would not be helped"} 2.

Then He said: The one who mocks the believers without certainty is mocking himself in the Fire, just as he used to do to the believers in the abode of the world.
