The people of merit said: There are four1 things through which alone faith is perfected: Gnosis of the Lord, the Esoteric Knowledge (al-Ilm al-Batin), the righteous disciple, and the fourth is the compassionate brother who is compliant with his brother in what he desires. It was said: Four things, whosoever is given them, has been given the kingdom of this world and the Hereafter: Purity (al-Safwa) for the brothers without cause, following the Truth (al-Haqq) without [blind adherence to] a sect, abandoning falsehood, and Vision (al-Ru'ya) and the Station of Esoteric Knowledge (al-Ilm al-Batin).
It was said: Exchange the gift of knowledge among yourselves, and you shall be guided to the Greatest Path and the Blessed Land; for in the gift lies the removal of malice —meaning the gift of knowledge removes doubt from you. Shake hands with your believing brothers, and Allah shall remove from you anxiety, poverty, maladies, and ailments. Conceal your religion from those other than its folk, and you shall prosper (Tughnamu)—meaning you shall enjoy the health of the body.
The goodness of one's state is based on three aspects: recompense, bestowal, and love. A man’s offering of his wealth, his self, and his knowledge to his Gnostic brothers fends off an evil death; and an evil death is Disbelief (Kufr).
